My birthplace is 'students city' [III]

As we sat on a bench Class V had one or two of my friends are 'making love', both men and women. Their relationship to each other face to face only limited, always smiling tenderly, 'flirting' when they met, and also wrote 'love letter' to her idol in the hope of obtaining a reply that will be able to further strengthen the love affair between them. However, the problem is not many of my peers who are able to write 'love letter' to the beautiful poetic language to be able to melt the heart of anyone who wanted. Because it needed the help of a friend who is really good at writing 'love letters' (usually the male). In return, our friend who is good at writing ' love letter 'was typically bought food and/or drink as an expression of gratitude.

If the school holidays, I usually go visit 'Ompung Coro' in the house because I always miss the good food that is cooked by his wife surnamed Lubis of Manambin. But I did not direct it my grandfather home. I deliberately took a detour so that first got home my grandfather the other in Banjar Pining. He (my grandfather) I gave the name of his own is 'Ompung Tukang Pangkas' ('barber grandfather') because he was a barber. He did his job as a barber in a 'sopo-sopo' ('hut') is deliberately built in front of his house. Place shaved it seemed pretty obvious when viewed from the 'Medan-Padang highway', which lies underneath, though separated by a fairly wide expanse of rice fields.

When standing on the paved road, I'm always taking the time to look at a stately home in the Dutch style of architecture. The mansion is owned by a Demang ('village headman') in 'Kurinci' (Kerinci). That is why he is better known by the name 'Demang Kurinci' in Mandailing Julu. This distinguished man was the biological father of a senior journalist Mochtar Lubis - also called 'Journalism Heroes of Indonesia' - has her own house in Central Jakarta 17 Bonang Road, not far from the Proclaimers Monument (Sukarno-Hatta). Although he has bled Mandailing, but he was born on March 7, 1922 in Padang-West Sumatra, and died in 2004 at Medistra Hospital, South Jakarta.

Once satisfied looking at the grandeur of the house, I was rushing home 'Ompung Tukang Pangkas' through the path towards the top of the pass the 'Demang Kurinci' in the north. The yard is quite spacious. In the front portion covered with various kinds of flowers are well maintained, while at the rear portion thrives even some types of fruit trees such as 'rambutan', 'jambu', and so on. If any of the ripe fruit ('rambutan' or 'jambu'), often a number children - I was never involved - take fruit that is ripe for a booster empty stomach. Our actions are not praiseworthy it is usually nothing that prohibits home because it usually always quiet as unoccupied. In fact, the mansion inhabited by a woman who was a bit old, but not have a husband, was the sister of Mochtar Lubis.

After studying for six years in elementary school, we were proceedings in education to a higher level , namely the 'First Level of Secondary School', which is more commonly referred to by the acronym 'SMP'. In Kotanopan when it 's just two SMP, namely SMP-1 is in Ranggasoli adjacent to the (across) 'Advanced High School' (SMA-108), and SMP-2 is located adjacent to the 'Upper Secondary School of Economics' (SMEA) in Huta Baringin within about one kilometer of SMP-1. Every morning we (the students of SMP, SMA, and SMEA) walkin to school. So the way to school, every days from Pasar Kotanopan to the school is always packed with school childrens, as well as when they get home from school. Not infrequently, in the middle of the highway through which they were joking and laughing, there are also among those that ran when chased his friend, causing quite a lively atmosphere.

Upon arriving at their homes, they usually pray the noon and then lunch with other family members. After that , nothing went into the fields (usually the women) or garden (usually the men) to assist parents of jobs there. However, not a few men who go 'haor' or 'maor' ('to and fro') playing with his friends. Because there are only two secondary schools in Kota Nopan (Mandailing Julu), then the students come from a variety of 'huta' (settlements) in the district Mandailing Julu (called 'luat') like Aek Marian, Maga, Tambangan, Angin Barat, Lumban Pasir, Muara Mais, Padang Sanggar, Sitaul-Taul, Saba Dolok, Singengu, Sayurmaincat, Simpang TolangTarimbaruTapadang, Ujung Marisi, Simandolam, Muara Soro, Padang Bulan, Muara Siambak, Manambin, Muara Pungkut, Huta Pungkut, Ulu Pungkut, Muara Tagor, Tamiang, Usor Tolang, Tolang, Muara Botung, Botung, and Pakantan. Generally they rented residence (house) to live together, wash clothes , and cook your own meals. At that time, they were all known as 'anak dagang', who return home each on Saturday and again on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning with the purposes and provisions of life (such as rice, salted fish, chili, onions, and so on) for needs a week. For additional information, that in the future many of the 'anak dagang' that have been successful in your career and earn more than enough. In addition to SMP-1 and SMP-2, there is no high school in the Secondary School Kotanopan, namely the ST (Technical Schoo ) and SKKP (School of Vocational Skill Daughter) in Singengu a distance of about three kilometers from the Pasar Kotanopan. At the time school already pretty much in Kotanopan where his students had come from various 'parts of the wind' because the quality is quite good, so many people look at 'Kota Nopan' as 'Kota Pelajar' ('student city') in Mandailing.

Especially after we were in junior high school, the more my friends my age who have had a 'boyfriend' (sweetheart), respectively, but many others (both men and women) who do not have the desire (desire) to make love. Those who already have a sweetheart of each can be met (face to face) directly at a certain time and place, for example when there are implementation Musabaqah Tilawatil Qu'ran (MTQ) at night in the Pasar Kotanopan, or youth event called 'Pesta Taman' ('Party Parks') has been contested by SMA-108 Kotanopan students, SKKP, Naposo Nauli Bulung Banjar Sawahan and Banjar Lombang at the same time and place, or when they are together watching performance art music 'Lesbumi ' (Islam breath), 'Band' (popular music) by Rasela Band, and bands from other areas who were invited to entertain the Kotanopan public at certain moments.

After three years studying in junior high, we generally managed to take the exam. Because it passed and is entitled to continue to higher education, namely Senior Secondary School. Most of my friends went to SMA-108 and SMEA in hometown, but instead I'm going to migrate to the 'Doli' (Deli Land, exactly in Medan) and school in SMA-8 Medan on the advice of 'tuok' (older sister of the bladder my mother) because her husband one of the teachers at SMA-8, who knows my attitude that tends to 'at will-be' as teenagers in Kotanopan can change for the better when it later was used to living independently. However, parents 'expectations' can not be realized, because I just like the school for two semesters (one year) in SMA-8 and returned home to Kotanopan for studied in SMA-108 Kotanopan. In this school, I started again from the first grade (Class I). After studying for a year later, it turns out I did not go up a class because the value of the low number of school subjects all are like English, Mathematics, and others. Although not up to the second grade (Class II), but I remain determined and have a strong desire to be able to finish high school in SMA-108 Kotanopan. Thanks to my will sooth and studied for three years, I finally passed and have the right to continue their studies to a higher education, namely Higher Education (University) . Indeed, not all SMA-108 graduates who continue their education to university (campuses), but some of us were accepted 'without examination' ('free testing') at some universities (PTN) famous in Indonesia.

Unlike the case with me ever with compatriot (Mr. Muhammad Yamin Nasution) migrated to Jakarta, and had studied for two semesters (one year) at the Department of Architecture, 'Sekolah Tinggi Tehnik Nasional' (STTN) in the Cikini Raya street, but I could not continue due to cost (financial). Then I went back home to Sumatra (Medan) and studying Ethnomusicology Faculty of Letters at University of North Sumatra and a bachelor's degree of Arts (S.Sn) successfully I obtained in 1994 with a thesis entitled "Tulila: Musik Dalam Tradisi Markusip in Mandailing", which in 2007 published in Penang-Malaysia by Areca Books with titles Tulila : Muzik Bujukan Mandailing.
